What are the boat times on handover days?
Between April and September we leave Mallaig between noon and 5pm depending on tides but will always wait for guests arriving on the afternoon train. On departure day we leave Doune at 9am.
Does the boat run in the winter?
Gripper II does run during the winter, but we do also rely on the Western Isles ferry from Mallaig to Inverie. If you are booking in the winter months we will be in contact a couple of days before to discuss arrival plans with you based on the weather and the tide
What happens if the boats cannot make the crossing?
This is a possibility and whilst we will do everything we can, sadly the weather is out of our control. We are more often than not, able to see what impacts the weather will have 48 hours abead so if there are risks to your travel plans we will discuss these with you and offer alternatives .
Can you arrange a taxi on Knoydart?
We aren’t able to arrange taxis from Inverie for dinner bookings
Do you take cards?
Our preferred payment methods are cash and direct bank payments via the Super platform. Both these methods keep our bank fees as low as possible and as an added bonus, if you use the Super platform you receive a 5% reward to put towards a future stay at Doune.
Can we book boat trips in advance?
We will plan boat trips for the week on your arrival day and we aim to ensure everybody gets to do what they are hoping to do. Trips are always dependent on the weather and the tide
Do you cater for those with different diets, allergies and intolerance?
Yes, if you let us know when you book we can cater for any diet. We do however have a small kitchen so if you have serious allergies we will need to speak to you before you arrive.
