Central to the Doune experience is eating fabulous, freshly prepared food in our award-winning Dining Room. For our guests, eating in The Doune Dining Room is a major part of their holiday. We are proud of our food and strive to always serve satisfying meals that will long be remembered.
The Doune Dining Room serves only home-made dishes, using locally sourced fresh ingredients. Our menu features flavours from around the world with a Scottish influence. The ambience is warm, friendly and relaxed, and equally suited to small or large groups. Our famous three-course evening dinner is a carefully chosen single menu, freshly prepared daily (with options for special diets and vegetarians).
Dining here is a communal affair, encouraging conversation and friendship. So, we have only ‘tech free tables’, no screens or mobile phones. First person to pick up their phone picks up the tab for the table!
Sourcing Our Produce
We really do source our produce as locally as we possibly can. It makes sense for many reasons; it’s fresh, it helps the circular economy, and it makes it simpler to run what is perhaps the most logistically challenging hospitality business in Scotland.
We grow as much as we can and have exciting plans to cultivate the field behind our house to grow even more. We have four creels in the bay outside the restaurant and often find ourselves with abundant crab and even lobster. We have a flock of 30 chickens to provide us with fresh eggs every day.
Our venison is from the Camusrory Estate on Loch Nevis, brilliantly shot and dealt with by our friend David Ferguson, the estate manager.
Our prawns are caught in the waters outside the bay before being delivered to us at the pier or collected by us from the boat while still at sea.
We source our fish from Andy Race in Mallaig, served on a Tuesday so we can always collect it fresh on the day it lands on your plate.
Other food supplies come from Williamsons in Inverness, Hastie & Dyce butchers in Inverness and Macbeths butchers in Forres.
Our beer comes from the Isle of Skye Brewing Company, our gin comes from Skye and Ullapool, our whisky comes from across Scotland and our wine only from European vineyards.
Non residents are welcome to join us for dinner.

Spaces are limited so early booking is recommended. If you need transport to Inverie, please chat to your accommodation provider. Please consider that there is a fifteen minute walk down a hill (and back up it after dinner!) so sturdy foot wear and a torch is essential. There is no need to worry about dressing up for dinner at Doune – dressing up is hanging up your waterproofs and untucking your trousers from your walking socks.
We are in a location that means we never get walk in business, so ‘no-shows’ have a dramatic effect on us. To counter this we ask for advance payment for dinner, sending a link via SMS to keep things simple.
